Olivia Rodrigo's album opened at No 1 in the US. Will it still lead on 8 August?

What happened
Rodrigo’s third album debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 485,000 units, the biggest solo week of 2026, ending Drake’s four-week run.
You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love came out on on Geffen. The Billboard 200, the main US album chart, counts sales and streams together as album units. The album had 485,000 in the week to , the biggest week of Rodrigo’s career. It ended Drake’s four weeks at No 1 with Iceman.
Most of that first week came from sales: 273,000 copies. It was her best sales week ever and the biggest by a woman this year. More than 15 versions of the physical album helped, including two signed editions. Streams added the equal of 211,000 albums, from about 218 million plays, also the biggest streaming week by a woman this year.
The album stayed at No 1 for a second week, on the chart dated . It is her third No 1 album in a row, after SOUR and GUTS. Now come the weeks after her biggest fans have already bought it, and special editions cannot buy those weeks.
The Pattern
Big pop album debuts since 2021 split into two groups. We found four. Albums with strong streaming stayed at No 1 for a month or more. Albums that relied on first-week sales of special editions lost the top spot within about two weeks.

The Read
History is split, and streaming decides which way. Rodrigo had the biggest streaming week by a woman this year. About 218 million first-week plays is the kind of listening that kept SOUR and The Tortured Poets Department at No 1 after their first sales faded. Few big albums come out this summer, and both her earlier albums kept streaming well. Her team also has more signed and special editions to release in any week a rival album threatens, and that usually works.
The doubt is in her own numbers. Sales made up 273,000 of the 485,000, her most sales-heavy opening yet. Debuts built on sales are the ones that went the way of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter: two weeks at No 1, then a fall once the special editions stopped selling. Drake’s Iceman is still streaming strongly, with two companion albums feeding it. The record is also small, four albums, and for GUTS we found no source for how long it stayed at No 1.
The market puts her at 34% to still be No 1 on the chart. Five summer weeks in a row at No 1 is something only Taylor Swift has managed in the last three years. The weekly charts through July will show which way it goes.
