Who controls your data

We collect the minimum data needed to run Hunch. We never sell your data. We never share it with third-party advertisers. Email is private. Display name and predictions are public. You can export or delete your data at any time.

What we collect

Email address

For login, account notifications, newsletter. Private. Never sold.

Display name

Public. Appears on leaderboard and beside your predictions.

Predictions & Brier score

Public. The point of the product is your public record.

Public stats through the API

When the Hunch API opens, your display name, public predictions and Brier score will also be available through it to anyone with an API token. These are the same fields shown on your public profile, and their use is covered by our Data Terms. There is no setting to switch this off yet. If you close your account, your predictions stay in the record without your display name.

Hashed password, sessions, IP address (logged for 30 days for security only).

Usage analytics

With your Analytics permission, Google Analytics helps us understand site usage. Advertising signals are disabled. You can withdraw permission in Cookie settings.

Payment data (Members)

Processed by our payment provider. We store only billing reference and plan. We never see card numbers.

What we don't collect

Phone number (unless you choose to share for 2FA)
Physical address (unless required for paid services)
Third-party advertising identifiers
Cross-site browsing behaviour
Social-graph data beyond your own connections within the platform

How we use your data

Provide the service (account, predictions, leaderboard)
Send service emails (account, security, important changes)
Send newsletter (only if you opt in; one-click unsubscribe in every email)
Maintain security and prevent fraud
Improve the product through aggregated usage analytics
Comply with legal obligations (regulators, court orders where compelled)

Third parties we use

Google Analytics — site usage analytics with your permission; separate from Google sign-in.
Payment provider — payment processing (Members only)
Email provider — transactional email and newsletter delivery
Hosting provider — cloud infrastructure (data resident in EU/UK)
Google, Apple and LinkedIn — sign-in, only if you choose to sign in with one of them. The provider shares your name and an email address with us.

We have data processing agreements with our payment, email and hosting providers. Google, Apple and LinkedIn handle sign-in data under their own privacy policies. Full vendor list available on request.

Your rights under UK GDPR

Access — request a copy of your data
Rectification — correct inaccurate data
Erasure — delete your account and associated data
Portability — export your data in machine-readable format
Objection — object to processing for specific purposes
Withdraw consent — for marketing/newsletter at any time

Cookies

We use essential cookies for core functionality and to remember your choices. With your Analytics permission, Google Analytics uses first-party _ga and _ga_* cookies to measure site usage. These are removed from this browser when you withdraw permission. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Manage your choices in Cookie settings.

Data retention

Account data: kept while account is active, deleted within 30 days of closure
Predictions: retained as part of public record (anonymised after account deletion)
Logs and security data: 30 days
Financial records: 7 years (UK statutory requirement)

International transfers

Your data is stored in the UK and EU. Any transfers outside happen under UK GDPR-compliant safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses).

Children

Hunch is for 18+ only. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Complaints

If you believe we've handled your data improperly, write to info@readhunch.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be notified by email and in your dashboard at least 30 days before they take effect. Version history available on request.
