Why these numbers

History. 5 of 6: all but Concussion (2015), which opened wide on Christmas Day.

Hunch. Variety calls Artificial one of the year's most talked-about releases, and Neon needs to earn back a $40 million film.

How this resolves

The opening market resolves on the Box Office Mojo weekend table for 25 to 27 December 2026: YES if Artificial plays in fewer than 600 US cinemas that weekend and NO if 600 or more. If it is not in US cinemas by 27 December the market is void, with Variety and Deadline as backup.

The pattern behind it

5 of 6
Five of six times the film opened in fewer than 600 cinemas and went wide later, after 11 to 23 days. Once it opened wide on Christmas Day.

We looked for cases where a film about famous living people was shown at a festival without reports of a mixed reaction, then reached US cinemas between 15 and 31 December and later played in at least 600. We found six since 2015. None had been dropped by an earlier owner.
