How this resolves

The revenue market resolves on a figure stated publicly by the British Museum or its director; third-party estimates do not resolve it.

The pattern behind it

3 of 3
In all three modern blockbuster sellouts — Leonardo 2011, Tutankhamun 2019, Vermeer 2023 — the host institution added capacity after selling out. The base rate is unanimous, but the mechanism (day tickets, late hours, extended run) differed every time, and none faced the conservation limits of a 900-year-old textile.

We looked for big exhibitions whose tickets sold out completely. Such sellouts are rare, so the cases are well known. In each modern case the museum found room for more visitors within weeks. How it did so was different every time, from tickets sold on the morning of the visit to opening late into the night.
