Why these numbers

History. 0 of 8: every deal finished in the end, two of them late.

Hunch. Plans to sell Boots in 2022 and to list it on the stock market in 2024 were both dropped.

How this resolves

The called-off market resolves on announcements by the companies or a regulator: YES if before 31 March 2027 the deal is called off, blocked or the buyer walks away, and NO if it is completed or still waiting. BBC News and The Guardian reports settle it if the company pages are silent.

The pattern behind it

6 of 8
Six of eight times the buyer finished by the date it named, after 137 to 228 days. Twice it finished late, and no deal was called off.

We looked for cases where a buyer from outside a UK company's own business agreed to buy it, named a date to finish, and had to wait for approval. We found eight from 2020 to 2025, including the last sale of Boots.
