Resolved: YES

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Diego Padres 3-1 in Game 4 on 7 October 2026 in San Diego (early 8 October UK time) to win the Division Series 3-1; MLB's postseason page and ESPN show Milwaukee in the NLCS against the Dodgers.

Why these numbers

Hunch. Milwaukee are the strongest team in the league on record, but the two best-record teams that lost since the bye began were also heavy favourites, and the opponent will arrive having just won a three-game series.

How this resolves

The market resolves on the official postseason bracket at mlb.com, updated at the end of the last National League Division Series game, which is 9 October at the latest. It resolves YES if Milwaukee are shown as the series winner; if Milwaukee are not in the Division Series at all, the market is void.

The pattern behind it

5 of 8
Five of the eight best-record teams since 2017 won their first series: the Dodgers in 2017 and 2024, the Red Sox in 2018, the Astros in 2019, the Brewers in 2025. The three that lost: Giants 2021, Dodgers 2022, Braves 2023.

We looked at every team with the best regular-season record in Major League Baseball from 2017 to 2025, and checked whether it won its first playoff series. In all eight seasons that was the Division Series. We left out 2020, a short season of 60 games. From 2022 the playoffs grew from ten teams to twelve, and the top two in each league got a bye with about five days off. We kept all eight seasons together, because four would be too few, and show the four since 2022 on their own. The Los Angeles Dodgers appear three times.
