GOV.UK published no announcement of new money, a loan or a guarantee for British Steel between 11 September and 12 October 2026 (only the Steel Council release of 23 September, with no new commitment), and Parliament's written statements record no British Steel statement in that time.
The support market resolves YES if a government announcement, written ministerial statement or Treasury document published on or before 12 October 2026 commits new public money, a new loan or a new guarantee to British Steel; drawdowns under arrangements already in place do not count. GOV.UK and Hansard settle it, and if neither has published, matching reports from the BBC and the Financial Times do.
Britain has taken five companies into state hands since 2008 and put its own people in charge of each. We checked whether new public money was promised within a month of the state naming its leaders. It came in four of the five. The exception, the Post Office, was the only one of them not losing money every week.
