Why these numbers

Hunch. England won a one-day series against Sri Lanka on 27 September, their sixth series win in short-format cricket this year.

How this resolves

The England win market resolves on the ECB results page after 18 November: YES if England won at least one of the games on 13, 15 and 18 November, NO if they won none, with games without result counted as not won. BBC Sport and The Guardian are the backups.

The pattern behind it

5 of 7
Five of seven times a visiting team began its season in Australia with a short one-day series, Australia won more games. South Africa in 2018 and Pakistan in 2024 won, both in the last game.

We looked for cases where a visiting team began its season in Australia with a short one-day series of two to five games, from 2006 to 2026. We found seven such series, and Australia won five. England's four one-day series in Australia since 2011 are not among them: three came after Test series on the same tour, and in 2022 England rested four players.
