Resolved: NO

Liverpool's departures in the window were Curtis Jones to Inter for £25.7m and Harvey Elliott on loan to Valencia, both midfielders, and after the deadline Iraola named Barcola, Muñoz, Gakpo and Ngumoha as his wide options (Guardian, 2 Sep 2026; Guardian, 3 Sep 2026). The club's own transfer list was not retrievable, so the resolution rests on the two whitelisted fallbacks.

How this resolves

Resolves on liverpoolfc.com. YES if Liverpool announce the completed permanent or loan departure of any forward aged 18 or over who has made a competitive first-team appearance, by 01:00 BST on 2 September 2026. Academy players without a first-team appearance do not count. If that source has not published in time, the Guardian's club-by-club window record and Sky Sports settle it.

The pattern behind it

4 of 8
Four of the last eight approaches ended in a sale inside the window, and four of nine since 2013. The split is not on money. Arsenal were ready to take £60m for Sánchez and Villa were minded to keep Watkins at any price; what decided both was whether a replacement could be found before the deadline. Grealish went because a clause fixed his price, Isak because Liverpool's pursuit ran all summer and Newcastle had time to prepare. Gakpo's case arrived on a Saturday night with the window closing on Tuesday, and Sky reported Liverpool weighing exactly that lateness.

We looked for times since 2013 when a Premier League club asked another Premier League club for a first-choice attacker who was under contract and not for sale. We checked whether the selling club sold him to the bidder before that window closed. Players in the last year of a contract, players already for sale and moves abroad are left out. We found nine, and the eight most recent are below.
