The IMF ministers' committee meeting in Bangkok on 17 October 2026 ended with a Chair's Statement by Saudi finance minister Mohammed al-Jadaan and no communiqué, as The Guardian and Reuters report; the IMF press release page could not be opened by script or browser.
History. 5 of 5: April and October 2022, April and October 2023, April 2026 all ended with a chair's statement.
Hunch. From 2001 to 2004 four meetings that spoke of Middle East tension and oil prices, without naming a war, all agreed a joint text.
The joint text market resolves on the IMF's press release for the committee's meeting of 17 October: YES if the document is titled a Chair's Statement and there is no Communiqué, and NO if the committee issues a Communiqué. If no document is out by 18 October the market is void, and Reuters and The Guardian reports settle it if the IMF page does not open.
We looked for cases where the committee's own text named a war as a shock to the world economy together with energy prices or energy supply. We found five such meetings, from 2022 to 2026. Each one is judged by the title of the document published that day.
