Resolves YES if the Republican Party's candidate, now Zach Lahn, wins the Iowa governor election on 3 November 2026, and NO if anyone else wins, including any independent. It is settled when the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC name the same winner, as reported by two of Reuters, The Guardian and BBC News, and if they do not agree, by the official result, which the Secretary of State must present to the state canvassers by 30 November.
We looked for cases where a US state chose a governor halfway through a president's term, the governor was leaving, the president's party had run the state for ten years and the other party had not won it for twenty, and a Senate seat was also open that day. We found ten such elections, from 1914 to 1994. None was in Iowa. Each time voters chose on the day, and the winner took office in January.
