On 13 October 2026 the House of Keys elected Chris Thomas Chief Minister by 16 votes to 6 over Kirrie Jenkins, confirmed him 22 to 2, and he was appointed at Government House that afternoon, as Tynwald, the Isle of Man government and BBC News report.
Hunch. Fifteen of the 24 members are new, more than in 2016 or 2021, and no first-term member has stood for the job before.
The Thomas market resolves on Tynwald’s news page and the Votes and Proceedings for 13 October 2026: YES if Chris Thomas gets at least 13 votes and is confirmed that day, and NO if Kirrie Jenkins is chosen or no one is chosen on 13 October. BBC and The Guardian reports are the backup.
We looked for cases where the Isle of Man’s parliament chose a Chief Minister after a general election. We found four votes on open pages, from 2006 to 2021. Until 2021 both chambers of Tynwald voted, and since then only the elected members.
