The pattern behind it

2 of 5
Of five English clubs that dismissed a title-winning manager within 14 months of the trophy, 2 of 5 won the league again within two seasons. The pattern is genuinely split: ruthlessness paid off fast at City and Chelsea, and buried Leicester.

Five English clubs sacked a manager soon after winning the league. We looked at the modern era for clubs that did this within about a year of the title. They did not end the same way. Two clubs won the trophy again almost at once, and one fell into mid-table for a decade. What mattered was not the sacking but what the club did in the summer after.
