Why these numbers

History. 3 of 5. Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester and City against Uefa appealed. Saracens said they would, then dropped it, and Derby did not appeal.

Hunch. City has not said officially that it will appeal, and Sky Sports reported on 26 September that chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said the process still has a long way to run.

How this resolves

Conditional market. The appeal window is 14 days from the Premier League's official announcement of the commission's verdict (The Guardian and Sky Sports, 26 Sep 2026); the leak of 25 September does not start it. YES if a Premier League or Manchester City statement says the club lodged an appeal against the verdict within those 14 days. NO if the 14 days pass with no appeal lodged; saying it intends to appeal is not enough. If the league has made no official announcement of the verdict by 26 December 2026, the market is VOID and counts in neither the numerator nor the denominator of the accuracy record. Base note: 3 of 5 clubs appealed at all; Leicester lodged within 14 days and City against Uefa in 12, but Sheffield Wednesday lodged in August 2020 with no exact day in an opened source, so the base does not show the 14-day window for every case.

The pattern behind it

3 of 5
In 3 of 5 cases the club appealed against the ruling. Saracens said they would, then dropped it, and Derby did not appeal.

We looked for cases where a sports league charged one of its clubs with breaking its money rules, the club denied it, and an independent panel found the club guilty. We found five such cases since 2019. One is rugby, where Saracens broke the league's limit on player pay. One is City's own Uefa case of 2020, judged by a different body.
