The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize went on 9 October 2026 to Navi Pillay as a person, and she is not on the PRIO director's 2026 list of seven names, according to nobelprize.org and prio.org.
History. 2 of 6. Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad in 2018 and Abiy Ahmed in 2019 were on that year's list. The winners of 2010, 2016, 2020 and 2025 were not; Liu Xiaobo in 2010 was only mentioned in the text. Until 2016 the list guessed who would win, and since 2017 it names who deserves to.
Hunch. This year three names on the list, Save the Children, Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms and the International Court of Justice, are also near the top of public rankings (The Guardian, 28 Sep 2026).
The PRIO list market resolves on the same announcement: YES if the laureate, or one of them, is on the list the PRIO director published on prio.org in September 2026, namely the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, the Committee to Protect Journalists, Save the Children, Mykola Kuleba or Save Ukraine, Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms, or the International Space Station partnership. BBC News and Guardian reports settle the name if nobelprize.org is slow.
We looked for cases where someone openly pressed the Nobel committee for the peace prize before it decided, beyond a normal nomination: a leader, a government or an organised public campaign. We found six such years since 2010. The side that pressed won once, in 2010, when the push came from supporters of a jailed writer. In the four years when a sitting leader did the pressing, the prize never went to the person he backed. The same committee decided all six.
