Why these numbers

History. 3 of 6 since 1973: rule by the governor ended within two months in 1994, 2009 and 2013.

Hunch. On 11 Oct the law minister said the situation was so grave that the government used both emergency powers at once.

How this resolves

The governor's rule market resolves on notices of the government of Pakistan in the Gazette of Pakistan and the record of the joint sitting on na.gov.pk: YES if by the end of 11 December 2026 the order under Article 234 has been withdrawn or has ended and a chief minister again leads the provincial government, whether elected, caretaker or after an election. NO if the governor still runs the province at the end of 11 December, including after approval or an extension by a joint sitting, and Al Jazeera and The Guardian are the backup.

The pattern behind it

3 of 6
Three of six times since 1973, rule by the governor ended within two months, and three times it lasted longer: 73, 76 and 341 days.

We looked for cases where Pakistan's central government removed the government of one province and put the province under its governor. Military takeovers, when every province changed hands at once, are left out. We found six such times since 1973, and two more in 1949 and 1951, before the present constitution set the two-month steps.
