On 14 October 2026 the National Assembly passed resolution 61 approving the 11 October emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Senate passed its own resolution hours later, and on 15 October a joint sitting approved it again (resolution 62), as the National Assembly record and The Express Tribune and Business Recorder show; the Senate's resolutions page is not updated after 25 August and no whitelist outlet reported the votes.
History. No count: the votes of the two houses are not on record in any of the past takeovers.
Hunch. Both houses meet on 13 Oct, and the government parties hold a majority in Parliament.
Resolves YES if by the end of 21 October 2026 the National Assembly and the Senate each pass a resolution approving the 11 October emergency, as shown in the records on na.gov.pk and senate.gov.pk. If either chamber has not approved it by then, it resolves NO, and Al Jazeera and The Guardian are the backup.
We looked for cases where Pakistan's central government removed the government of one province and put the province under its governor. Military takeovers, when every province changed hands at once, are left out. We found six such times since 1973, and two more in 1949 and 1951, before the present constitution set the two-month steps.
