How this resolves

(adjacent, long). The return market resolves on the Premier League's Match officials for Matchweek articles on premierleague.com for every Manchester United league fixture from 18 September to 13 December 2026: YES if Matt Donohue is listed as VAR for any of them, with assistant VAR, fourth official and cup matches not counting. If a list is missing, BBC Sport and Sky Sports reports of the appointments settle it; silence on all three resolves NO.

The pattern behind it

7 of 8
Seven of the last eight officials named in an admitted refereeing error were left out of the next Premier League round. The exception is Chris Kavanagh in February 2022, who refereed the next evening. All six under Webb held.

We found eight times since VAR began in 2019-20 when the Premier League referees' body, now called Pro Ref, publicly admitted a VAR or referee mistake that changed a match, and told the club within two days. For each one we checked whether the official it named was left out of every Premier League game in the next round, as referee, VAR, assistant VAR or fourth official.
