Why these numbers

Hunch. On 7 October all six voted for the rise, while Nagesh Kumar and Ram Singh split only on the plan, not on the rate.

How this resolves

The vote market resolves on the voting line of the same statement: YES if all six members vote the same way on the main rate and NO if at least one votes differently. BBC News and The Guardian are the backup.

The pattern behind it

6 of 7
Six of seven times the committee raised its rate again at the very next meeting, 35 to 56 days later. Once, in the UK in 2017, the next rise came 273 days later.

We looked for cases where a central bank rate committee raised its rate for the first time after its last move had been a cut. We found seven: two from India's own committee and five from the UK, Thailand and Australia. Like India's, each of those committees has members from outside the bank and votes by majority to hit an inflation target.
