Why these numbers

History. 17 of 31 such horror films added at least 7.1%.

Hunch. Resident Evil's fourth weekend fell only 35%, to about $8.2m, with Halloween still to come inside the three weeks (Deadline, 10 Oct).

How this resolves

The 7% market resolves on the same table on 2 November 2026: YES if the total after 1 November is at least 7% higher than after 11 October, NO if less, with Deadline and Variety as the backup.

The pattern behind it

12 of 31
Twelve of 31 horror films added 10% or more in the three weekends after their fourth, when new horror films opened against them. The middle film added 7.1%.

We looked for cases where a horror film had its fourth weekend in US cinemas between mid-September and the end of October, while new horror films opened the same weekend. We found 31 such films from 2000 to 2025 with all weekends on record, and measured how much each added to its US total over the next three weekends. Below are the four that, like Resident Evil, were still in more than 3,000 cinemas.
