Resolved: NO

No joint sitting gave the Niculescu government confidence by 16 October 2026: the cdep.ro calendar of joint sittings for 2026 lists no sitting in October, Reuters on 15 October reported him still securing support ahead of the vote, and Radio Infinit reports the joint bureaus set the confidence vote for Tuesday 20 October at 14:00.

Why these numbers

History. 3 of 8 times. All three wins came within six days of the candidate being named.

Hunch. After the last vote on 30 September, the leader of the Save Romania Union, a party that backed that pick, said it was time to return to the people's vote.

How this resolves

The confidence market resolves on the records of joint sittings of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate on cdep.ro, checked on 17 October 2026: YES if a joint sitting held by 16 October gives the Niculescu government confidence with at least 233 votes. NO if he is voted down, withdraws, gives back the job or no vote is held by then, and Politico Europe or BBC News reports settle it if the parliament site is down.

The pattern behind it

3 of 8
3 of 8 times parliament backed a new candidate who came after a failed one, each within six days. Five fell short: three gave up before a vote and two were voted down.

We looked for cases where a Romanian president named a new candidate for prime minister after an earlier one in the same crisis had failed. We found eight since 2009, in four crises. Two are from this year, with the same parliament and president as now.
