How sources are used

Every Echo references a minimum of 3 of these publications, with at least one primary source (Hansard, ONS, government press release) and at least two independent secondary sources (named publications). The full citation list appears at the foot of every Echo, formatted in Harvard reference style.

Where a source disagrees with another, we say so explicitly in the Echo body. Where claims cannot be verified across multiple sources, the Echo is held until they can be — or published with an explicit confidence qualifier.

If a source has retracted, corrected, or updated a claim we cited, the Echo is amended within 24 hours and an update note appears on the Echo's revision log. See methodology for the full workflow.
