How this resolves

The market resolves on the official FIA race classification for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps on 19 July 2026; sprint results do not count. If that source has not published in time, Formula1.com race report and Sky Sports F1 settle it.

The pattern behind it

4 of 4
All four of the last four modern regulation resets — 1998, 2009, 2014 and 2022 — ended with the driver whose team mastered the new rules as champion, and in three of them the lead narrowed sharply on the way. That is the full record of rulebook resets since 1998. The 2009 case is the caution: Button's early cushion nearly evaporated, and his title was saved by the points already banked.

Formula 1 rewrites its rules roughly once every ten years. We looked at the four big rule changes since 1998 and asked one thing: was the driver whose team best understood the new rules still in front when the season ended, however far his lead fell on the way?
