How this resolves

The sequel market resolves YES only on an official A24 announcement or a confirmed greenlight report from Deadline, Variety or The Hollywood Reporter citing the studio; talent interviews expressing hope do not count.

The pattern behind it

1 of 5
Of five comparable low-budget horror phenomena, only one — It — cleared $400m worldwide. Backrooms already sits at $350m, closer to the line than any of them got this fast, but horror decay curves are unforgiving. The base rate and the head start point in opposite directions.

We looked for cheap horror films that became huge hits, and at how much they made in the end. We found five. Films like these earn many times what they cost, but then their takings fall faster than almost any other kind of film. The opening weekend makes the news. The weeks after it decide the final total.
