Hunch. This window holds Berkshire's third-quarter report, filed in the first week of November in each of the past nine years, and it will be the first set of figures published with someone else in the chair.
This market resolves on the official closing price of Berkshire Hathaway class B shares (BRK.B) on the New York Stock Exchange for Friday 18 December 2026, read on the Nasdaq price page for BRK/B after the close, against the reference close of $509.77 on 18 September 2026: YES if below 509.77, NO if equal or above. If that page is unavailable, two of the NYSE quote page, Reuters and the BBC market data settle it; a share split or special distribution before that date would be adjusted for on the exchange's own adjusted price.
We looked for S&P 100 companies where a founder, or someone who had chaired the board for ten years or more, gave up the chair while another person was already chief executive. We found thirteen cases since 2010 and show them all. For each, we checked whether the shares closed below the announcement-day price four weeks later. In eleven of the thirteen the shares dipped below that price within five days, so the first days say little. At Microsoft and Oracle, both in 2014, a new chief executive was named on the same day, so those price moves were not about the chair alone.
