The gov.uk Jackdaw Field Development page still lists the project as under review, with no 2026 consent decision published by 30 September 2026; Reuters reported on 11 September that the decision was pushed back until after the 8 October by-election.

How this resolves

The market resolves on publication by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero or OPRED on gov.uk of the grant of development and production consent for Jackdaw, by 23:59 BST on 30 September 2026. If that source has not published in time, BBC News and The Guardian settle it.

The pattern behind it

4 of 4
All four of the last four early revolts against first-term Labour governments since 1997 ended with the government carrying its policy through the initial confrontation. In three of the four the substance was later softened or reversed: the 10p losers were compensated, the welfare bill was gutted, the two-child cap was scrapped. The catch for Burnham's rebels is that every one of those delayed wins began with a Commons division. A consent signed by the energy secretary offers no division to lose. The full record is the same four revolts, 1997 to 2025.

We found four revolts since 1997, and each lost at first. We looked for revolts on a point of principle by Labour MPs against a first-term Labour government with a large majority. Each time the government got its policy through the first fight. In three of the four it later gave the rebels most of what they wanted.
