History. 4 of 5: the figure for the month before was left unchanged in the next report; the one change, in June 2008, came with the yearly revision of the accounts.
Hunch. BEA already made its big yearly revision on 30 September, so the 25 November report is a normal one.
The revision market resolves on the price table of the same 25 November report: YES if September core PCE still stands at 0.3%, and NO if it is now 0.2% or lower, or 0.4% or higher. If the report is not out by the next scheduled date, the market is cancelled.
We looked for cases where the BEA reported the same core price rise two months in a row, while energy prices jumped and core prices were up more than 2% over a year. We found five such months since 2000, out of 315 monthly reports. Three came in 2007 and 2008, and two in 2022. (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis; US Bureau of Economic Analysis)
