How this resolves

The market resolves on the official ODI series result recorded by the ECB and ESPNcricinfo after the third one-day international at Lord's on 19 July. A 1-1 series with a washout resolves NO. If that source has not published in time, Sky Sports and BBC Sport settle it.

The pattern behind it

2 of 4
Two of the last four T20 contests between the sides in England went to England, and both were single matches. Stretch the format and the record inverts: India have won both multi-match T20I series played in England, in 2018 and 2022, and in 2018 they did it after England had won the first completed game. This is the first five-match version of the fixture, which lengthens the format the pattern says favours India.

India won both T20 series they played in England. We looked at every T20 contest between the two sides in England since 2011, counting a one-off game or a full series as one contest. England won the two one-off games, in 2011 and 2014. India won the series in 2018 and 2022, and in 2018 they did it after England had won the first completed game.
