The AI Act omnibus was published in the Official Journal and entered into force on 27 July 2026, per the Commission’s AI Act page (digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu).
Official Journal publication resolves on the EUR-Lex record: the amending act must appear in the Official Journal of the European Union dated on or before 1 August 2026.
The EU's record on its own digital deadlines is split. We looked at five big EU digital laws and checked whether their deadlines came on the date the law set. The main laws took effect on the day promised. The more ambitious laws that followed slipped or died. The AI Act is now doing both at once.
