Why these numbers

Hunch. On 30 October The Observer called the race neck and neck, while Salazar won 60.4% of the two-party vote in 2024.

How this resolves

The vote share market resolves on the certified results of 17 November 2026: YES if Salazar has under 60.4% of the votes cast for her and Rodríguez together, NO at 60.4% or more. Other candidates are not counted, a recount moves the date to the day of certification, and BBC News and The Guardian are the backups.

The pattern behind it

9 of 10
Nine of ten times, a House member who broke with a president of their own party before a midterm lost less of their lead than the 21 points Salazar won by in 2024. One lost more: New York's 24th in 2014.

We looked for cases where a House member from the president's party ran again in a midterm after breaking in public with the president on an issue that hurt voters at home, in a district and state the president had won by 10 points or more. The newest group that fits all of this is ten races in 2014, and older years have more. Each was a Democrat who voted on 15 November 2013 for a bill to let people keep their health plans, against Barack Obama's veto threat. (US House Clerk; The American Presidency Project; The Guardian)
