Why these numbers

History. 4 of 6. The two slower approvals took 127 and 135 days.

Hunch. Parliament's energy committee opened an inquiry into the oil ministry on 5 October, which can slow the vote on a new minister. Editorial scoring note: The coded outcome is parliamentary approval within three months: delays of 70, 57 and 89 days qualify. Four of six met that outcome. First-nominee approval (5/6) and acting-minister appointment (1/6) are separate outcomes.

How this resolves

The new minister market resolves on reports by ICANA, the news agency of Iran's parliament, checked on 6 January 2027: YES if parliament gives a vote of confidence to a new oil minister by the end of 5 January 2027, NO otherwise. BBC News and The Guardian settle it if the agency's pages do not open.

The pattern behind it

4 of 6
After 4 of 6 resignations parliament approved the next minister within three months. The other two took 127 and 135 days, and in 2022 the first choice was turned down. Editorial scoring note: The coded outcome is parliamentary approval within three months: delays of 70, 57 and 89 days qualify. Four of six met that outcome. We looked for cases where an Iranian minister resigned in the middle of a scandal at his ministry or open anger at his work, and parliament then had to vote on the next minister. We found six since 2019, under two earlier presidents. Two were education ministers and two were agriculture ministers.
