No Director General threat update or speech was reported between 11 September and 12 October 2026; MI5's only public item found was the 30 September espionage alert on a Chinese research body, which BBC News and The Guardian reported as an alert, not a speech; mi5.gov.uk could not be read because Cloudflare blocked it.
The threat-update market resolves on mi5.gov.uk, which publishes the Director General's speeches on the day they are given. It resolves YES if a Director General threat update or speech is published on or before 12 October 2026; the 11 September article does not count. If the site has published nothing, the BBC and Sky News reports settle it.
We looked at every public speech or statement by the head of MI5 published on the MI5 website since 2017, eight in all. For each one we checked the next 30 days. Was a national security bill put before Parliament for the first time, or did the government make an order that bans, renames or names a group? The newest come first.
