Resolved: NO

No Premier League club dismissed a permanent manager or head coach by 30 September 2026: the season's managerial-changes table lists only summer changes, and sack-race coverage on 22 and 24 September and odds lists on 29 September still had every manager in post going into the international break.

How this resolves

Resolves on a statement on the club's official website, which is the primary source for its own managerial changes, confirming that a permanent Premier League first-team manager or head coach has been dismissed, relieved of his duties or has left by mutual consent, dated on or before 23:59 BST on 30 September 2026. A resignation to join another club resolves NO. If that source has not published in time, Sky Sports and BBC Sport settle it.

The pattern behind it

3 of 8
Three of the last eight seasons had a Premier League sacking by 30 September, and four of nine since 2017-18. The early ones share a shape: three or four games, and either a rout, a single point, or a public row with the owner. What raises the number this year is the state of the league rather than the calendar: tenure is at a record low, nine dressing rooms have a manager they had not worked with in July, and once the window shuts every board can measure its head coach against the squad it paid for. What holds it down is that a board which has just hired, backed and paid for a manager has every reason to wait for winter.

We looked at every Premier League season since 2017-18 and asked one question: did any club sack its manager on or before 30 September? A club announcing a sacking, a parting of company or a manager relieved of duties all count. Managers who resigned to join another club, or who left before the season or as temporary caretakers, do not.
