US Commerce officials confirmed on 14 July 2026 that Nvidia H200 chips had begun shipping to Chinese customers under licence, though in small volumes (CNBC; Bloomberg; Reuters, 14–16 Jul 2026).
Delivery confirmation resolves on an explicit statement from Nvidia (earnings call, SEC filing or press release) or the US Commerce Department that H200 units have shipped to a mainland Chinese customer. US clearance status resolves on Commerce Department licensing statements as reported by CNBC and Bloomberg.
We looked at each round of US limits on Nvidia's chip sales to China since 2019. The same cycle kept coming back. Washington set limits, Nvidia made a chip that fit them or won a licence, and then one of the two governments shut the door. Of the three China versions since 2022, only one sold for about a year. What has changed is which government shuts the door.
