How this resolves

The market resolves on the official Wimbledon results and the 2026 seeds list at wimbledon.com, published at the end of the women's final on 11 July. It resolves YES if the champion is listed as unseeded or seeded 11 or lower; a rain delay pushes resolution to the day the final is completed. If that source has not published in time, BBC Sport and Sky Sports settle it.

The pattern behind it

3 of 4
Three of the last four Wimbledon women's champions were seeded outside the top ten: Krejcikova at 31, Vondrousova unseeded, Rybakina at 17. The exception is the most recent, Swiatek in 2025, who arrived near the top of the rankings. The other half of the record is settled before a ball is struck this week: every champion since Ashleigh Barty's first title in 2021 has been a first-time winner, eight in a row, and with no former champion left in the 2026 draw that streak reaches nine whatever happens.

No former champion has won the women's title since 2016. In recent years it has often gone to a player the seedings did not rate near the top. Below are the last four champions and where each was seeded, with the same question the first market asks: was the winner seeded outside the top ten? Reports from ESPN, the WTA and the official Wimbledon records.
