Why these numbers

History. No count: the day each past vote was announced was not recorded.

Hunch. BBC reported on 5 and 7 November that government whips have discussed a debate and vote before the new year, and the last condition the minister named, the committee report, came out on 4 November.

How this resolves

The day market resolves YES if by the end of 17 December 2026 the Leader of the House, in a Thursday business statement in Hansard, or the Commons order paper names a specific sitting day for the repairs motion, including a day in 2027, a day later withdrawn, or a vote already held; words like 'in the new year' or 'shortly' are NO. BBC News and The Guardian settle it if Hansard is silent.

The pattern behind it

Too few cases
Six of seven times since 1995, a vote ministers promised MPs on Commons affairs came within 137 days. The seventh, on these repairs, never came, even after 224 days. This time 263 days have passed.

We looked for cases where a UK government promised the House of Commons a vote on how it runs itself, from MPs' conduct to its own building, without giving a date. We found seven such promises since 1995, two of them about these same repairs.
