How this resolves

Resolves on gov.uk. YES if a news story, policy paper, correspondence or written statement published on gov.uk on or before 30 September 2026 refers to the Scottish Government's food price control consultation or the Food Prices (Scotland) Bill. If that source has not published in time, BBC News and The Guardian citing the gov.uk document. Speeches reported only in the press do not count settle it.

The pattern behind it

2 of 8
Two of the last eight Scottish measures that met a UK-level constraint came through in the form the Parliament passed them: the single-use plastics ban and the glue trap ban, both by Internal Market Act exclusions granted in full. Over the full record since 2012 it is three of ten, the third being minimum unit pricing after five years and a Supreme Court ruling. The other seven were struck down, narrowed on reconsideration, blocked at Royal Assent or, for the deposit return scheme, granted an exclusion that left out glass.

We found ten Scottish measures since 2012 that needed UK clearance. Each was passed by the Scottish Parliament, or sent to court before it was introduced. It could only work as passed if the UK Supreme Court found it within Holyrood's powers, if no UK order blocked it under section 35 of the Scotland Act 1998, or if the UK granted an exception from the Internal Market Act. We asked whether it came through in full. The last eight are shown.
