FEC independent expenditure reports show No Going Back PAC, a super PAC tied to MAGA Inc, paying for text messages backing Michael Whatley on 21, 24 and 28 October 2026 (about $106,000) and direct mail on 16 October, new ad spending after 2 October.
History. No count from the cases: whether the party leader replaced the pulled money was not recorded. This question comes from Trump having picked Whatley himself. The checker compares Hunch with the page base of 2 of 4.
Hunch. Trump's political group said in September it was sending $49 million to key midterm races, so it has the cash if he chooses to spend it here (The New York Times, 9 Sep 2026).
The Trump money market resolves on FEC filings by Donald Trump's campaign committee and the super PACs tied to him: YES if any of them reports or announces new ad spending or a contribution for Whatley after 2 October and before 3 November 2026. Spending announced before 2 October, and rallies without money, resolve NO, and Reuters and BBC News reports settle it if the filings are unclear.
We looked for cases where a party's central money group pulled its ads from a race a few weeks before polling day because of bad polls, and moved the money to other races, while the candidate had the backing of the party's leader, who does not run that group. We found four since 2008, all US Senate races. All four candidates lost, but that mostly shows the funds read the polls well. So we ask whether the money came back.
