Resolved: NO

Wiebes did not take the overall: Demi Vollering won the final general classification in Nice by 1:18 over Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney, with Wiebes finishing the race as points-classification winner instead (Tour de France Femmes official rankings, 9 August 2026).

How this resolves

Resolves on the official final general classification published by the race organiser at letourfemmes.fr after stage 9 in Nice on 9 August 2026. YES only if Lorena Wiebes is listed first. If the race is shortened or a stage cancelled, it resolves on whatever final general classification the organiser publishes. Later disqualifications announced after the podium ceremony do not reopen it. If that source has not published in time, The Guardian and BBC Sport settle it.

The pattern behind it

0 of 4
In four editions, the opening-stage winner has never won the Tour de France Femmes. The split inside the record matters: when the opener was a flat sprint (2022, 2024), the stage winner dropped out of the GC picture within days; when it was punchy (2023, 2025), the winner was an all-rounder who stayed prominent but still lost the title in the mountains. Lausanne 2026 was punchy, but it was won by the purest sprinter in the field.

No first-stage winner has won the women's Tour since 2022. The Tour de France Femmes has had four editions since it restarted that year. Each opened with a stage winner in yellow, and each time someone else won in the end. What happened to that rider depended on the kind of first stage.
