Resolved: YES

La Bola Negra, which won the Toronto People's Choice Award on 20 September 2026, was in the BFI London Film Festival line-up and had its gala screening at the Royal Festival Hall on 8 October 2026, as the BFI, Variety and the Evening Standard show; the BFI ticket page itself was behind a bot check.

How this resolves

The market resolves on the BFI London Film Festival programme on bfi.org.uk (published 2 September 2026, festival 7 to 19 October); resolves YES if the People's Choice winner is listed as screening, checked after the winner is named on 20 September and confirmed by the festival's close on 19 October. If that source has not published in time, Guardian and Variety LFF coverage settle it.

The pattern behind it

5 of 8
Five of the last eight TIFF People's Choice winners had their world premiere in Toronto: Green Book in 2018, Jojo Rabbit in 2019, The Fabelmans in 2022, American Fiction in 2023 and The Life of Chuck in 2024. The three that did not, Nomadland in 2020, Belfast in 2021 and Hamnet in 2025, had premiered at Venice or Telluride. Eight festivals, 2018 to 2025, are the full record checked.

We looked at the last eight People's Choice winners and where each had its first screening, using trade and newspaper reports of the award. Five were first shown in Toronto. The other three came from Venice or Telluride.
