Resolved: YES
Proclamations 11061 to 11063 in the Federal Register (14 September) banned Canadian alcohol, dairy and motorcycle imports from 12:01 a.m. ET on 29 September 2026, and CBS News reported the ban took effect that day without delay.

How this resolves
The start-date market resolves YES if the ban on Canadian dairy, alcoholic beverages and motorcycles is in force on 29 September as written in the presidential actions of 8 September. A delay, a suspension or a carve-out removing any of the three categories resolves NO; the Federal Register and US Customs and Border Protection notices are read first, then the Reuters and BBC reports of the measure taking effect.
The pattern behind it
5 of 8
Five of the last eight US import restrictions on an allied economy drew a retaliatory announcement from the target within 30 days: Canada in 2018, 2020, 2025 and August 2026, and the European Union in March 2025. Four of those five came within three days. The three that did not follow the pattern each had a reason: Mexico traded a border deal for a pause in 2025, the EU was waiting for its own WTO award in 2019, and Canada treated the 2017 lumber duties as a legal case rather than a trade fight. Ottawa's position today looks closer to the first group than the second, but its stated strategy of building at home rather than escalating points the other way.
We looked at every time since 2017 that the US government put a new import limit on a treaty ally or close trading partner, and at what the target government did in the next 30 days. We found eight. Canada is the target in five of them.
