Why these numbers

History. No count from past cases: the step from a notice of intent to the appointment was not recorded in them. This question comes from what GlenWyvis and its advisers have said.

Hunch. Interpath Advisory searched for investors for months without finding the money, and two of its partners are already named as administrators (The National, 24 Sep 2026).

How this resolves

The GlenWyvis market resolves on The Gazette (insolvency notices) on 8 October 2026 at 10:00: YES if administrators are appointed to GlenWyvis Distillery with an appointment date on or before 7 October 2026. A statement by GlenWyvis or Interpath Advisory, BBC News or The Herald settle it if no notice is yet published. A sale or rescue without administration, liquidation instead of administration, or a new notice of intent without an appointment resolves NO.

The pattern behind it

4 of 5
In four of five slumps more than one company failed formally. The only slump with a single failure was Scotch in the 1980s.

We looked for cases where a product takes at least two years to make, by law or by its nature, and a long boom ended with too much stock and falling sales. Large groups and small independents worked side by side, and at least one company went into a formal insolvency process under a court or its lenders. We counted every later failure in the same slump and the months between them. We found five since 1901. Four are drinks: Scotch in the 1980s, and Irish whiskey, American whiskey and cognac now. One is London offices in 1989 to 1992.
